The Johnson Brothers
The Johnson Brothers have a combined 150 years of boxing experience. Before boxing, the brothers were kickboxers and trained in karate. Since retiring from the sport and opening up a gym, they have one of the more competitive gyms in the Kansas City area; and in 2022, Thomas was awarded the Kansas City Golden Gloves Coach of the Year.
Darrel Huitt-Johnson — Darrel was the first brother to enter the boxing ring. Darrel competed in his first official amateur boxing bout in 1996 at Whatsoever Boxing Gym in Kansas City, Missouri. He won three Kansas City Golden Gloves over the next four years.
Steven Huitt-Johnson — Steven won four open Kansas City Golden Gloves and traveled to nationals four times, claiming three medals, which included two bronze and one silver. He was ranked as high as fourth in the nation and turned professional in 2006.
Dustin Huitt-Johnson — Dustin was the first Kansas City boxer to win a national bout in the senior open division at just 16 years old, knocking his opponent out in the second round. He was ranked No. 5 in the nation in the Under 19 division and turned professional in 2007.
Joeylee Huitt-Johnson — Joeylee had one of the better careers as a junior boxer, picking up regional titles during his time in the youth division. He won two regional junior olympic and two regional silver gloves championships, qualifying for nationals twice.
Thomas Huitt-Johnson — Thomas was a bronze medalist in the National Golden Gloves and a member of the 2009 and 2010 USA Boxing teams. He won the Kansas City Golden Gloves eight times in the open division and was awarded a USA Boxing and KCGG scholarship.
